Historic Alliance Forms Among Opposition and Rebel Groups

After 5 days of deliberations, Sudanese opposition and rebel groups agreed to unite forces to overthrow the regime of the National Congress Party (NCP) and to jointly rule the country until democratic elections are held. The 15 page "New Dawn Charter" signed January 5th, outlines the future for a united Sudan, establishes a strong relationship with newly independent South Sudan, lays the groundwork for an interim government and emphasizes that the new alliance agrees to a "peaceful mass action and its transformation to a peaceful popular uprising."
