On August 4, 2012, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North and the African Union/League of Arab States/United Nations Tripartite on Humanitarian Assistance to war-affected civilians in Blue Nile and South Kordofan States has been signed by all parties. The SPLM-N as agreed to an immediate cessation of hostilities for one month with possibility of renewal to allow for an assessment of the region and distribution of humanitarian aid. Also an assessment team will be established and sent to the war torn states within two weeks of the signing of the agreement.
